How the contest works
Submit exactly three different images. You may make an unlimited number of separate three-image submissions during the submission period, but the same image may not be submitted twice. (Section 5)
Images are reviewed before they appear. ArtUp accepts or rejects each image, and images must not show a recognizable individual. (Sections 5 and 6)
Eligible Campus Canvas users vote. Each user may cast one recorded vote per image, which may be positive or negative. Voting on your own images is permitted. (Section 9)
Rankings use total positive votes. Negative votes do not subtract from an image’s total. The five eligible images with the highest positive-vote counts win, subject to review and tie-breaking. (Sections 9 and 11)
Voting closes December 11, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time. ArtUp expects to send potential-winner notices within 10 business days. (Sections 3 and 11)
Two things to know before you enter
The contest needs a minimum level of participation
The contest requires at least 30 valid submissions by the submission deadline. Each valid submission contains exactly three accepted images, so the minimum qualifying pool is 90 accepted images. Multiple valid submissions from the same entrant may count toward this threshold. If the minimum is not met, ArtUp may extend the submission period or cancel the contest and decline to award prizes, subject to applicable law. (Section 4)
You grant ArtUp an exclusive commercial licence
You keep legal ownership of copyright in each image you submit. For every image submitted, you also grant ArtUp a perpetual, worldwide, royalty-free, transferable and sublicensable exclusive commercial licence, to the exclusion of all others including you. You may continue to use your image for personal, educational and portfolio purposes, but not commercially. Read Section 8 in full before submitting.
Official contest rules and Campus Canvas terms of use
All 21 sections are reproduced in full below. Select a section to read it.
1Sponsor, Purpose and No Affiliation
The sponsor and administrator of the contest and operator of Campus Canvas is ArtUp life Inc. ("ArtUp"). The contest invites eligible Queen's University students to submit images that capture moments, places or memories connected with their university experience and allows eligible Campus Canvas users to vote on approved images.
The contest and Campus Canvas are independently operated by ArtUp. They are not sponsored, endorsed, administered by, or affiliated with Queen's University or any other organization. References to Queen's University and the @queensu.ca domain are used solely to describe eligibility and access requirements.

2Eligibility and Account Requirements
To create or use a Campus Canvas account, submit images, vote, or win a prize, a person must, at the relevant time: (a) be at least 18 years old; (b) be actively enrolled, full-time or part-time, in an undergraduate or graduate program at Queen's University; and (c) register using a valid @queensu.ca email address. Citizenship and place of residence do not otherwise determine eligibility.
An @queensu.ca email address is an access-control measure and is not conclusive proof of active enrollment. Each user represents and warrants that they are actively enrolled. ArtUp may, but is not required to, request reasonable proof of current enrollment at any time, especially before awarding a prize. Failure to provide satisfactory proof when requested may result in suspension, disqualification, or prize forfeiture.
Employees, contractors, contest judges or reviewers of ArtUp, and members of their immediate families or households, are not eligible to enter or win.
Users must provide accurate first name, last name and email information, keep account credentials secure, and not impersonate another person or create accounts for another person.
3Contest Period and Deadlines
The contest opens on Friday, October 2, 2026. Image submissions close on Friday, December 4, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time. Voting closes on Friday, December 11, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time.
ArtUp may extend, suspend, postpone, modify, or cancel the contest, submission period, voting period, or any related process where ArtUp considers it reasonably necessary because of insufficient participation, technical failure, security concerns, suspected manipulation, legal or regulatory issues, events beyond ArtUp's reasonable control, or other circumstances that materially interfere with fair or practical administration. Any extension or material schedule change may be announced through Campus Canvas and/or www.artup.life, which will constitute sufficient notice unless applicable law requires otherwise.
If the contest proceeds to completion, the stated prize amounts will remain fixed. ArtUp will not reduce or reallocate the published prize values merely for convenience.
4No Purchase Necessary; Minimum Submission Threshold
No purchase or payment is required to create a Campus Canvas account, submit images, vote, enter, or win.
The contest requires at least 30 valid submissions by the applicable image-submission deadline. Each valid submission must contain exactly three accepted images, meaning the minimum qualifying pool is 90 accepted images. Multiple valid submissions from the same eligible entrant may count toward this threshold.
For purposes of the minimum threshold, ArtUp determines whether a submission is valid. ArtUp may reject an individual image or an entire submission. A three-image submission will count toward the 30-submission threshold only if ArtUp accepts all three images for contest participation. If the minimum threshold is not met, ArtUp may extend the submission period or cancel the contest and decline to award prizes, subject to applicable law.
5Image Submissions
Each submission must contain exactly three different images. Eligible entrants may make an unlimited number of separate three-image submissions during the submission period. The same image may not be submitted more than once, including in a later submission by the same entrant.
There is no restriction on when an image was originally captured, provided the entrant personally created it and the image otherwise satisfies these Terms.
Once an entrant submits an image through Campus Canvas, the submission is final from the entrant's side. The entrant may not withdraw, delete, retract, or revoke the submitted image or the rights granted to ArtUp under these Terms, except where applicable law requires otherwise. ArtUp may nevertheless accept, reject, remove, suspend, or disqualify an image or submission at any time.
ArtUp may use automated or manual tools to review uploads, but does not undertake to detect every issue or infringement and does not assume responsibility for a user's compliance with these Terms.
6Image Content Standards and Review
Submitted images should be substantially raw, original images captured by the entrant. Ordinary adjustments such as cropping, exposure correction, colour balancing, sharpening, noise reduction, or conventional filters are permitted. Materially AI-generated, AI-composited, synthetic, heavily altered, or deceptively manipulated images may be rejected in ArtUp's discretion.
Images must not depict a recognizable or reasonably identifiable individual. This prohibition applies even if the entrant says the person consented. ArtUp may reject or remove any image in which a person can reasonably be identified.
Images also should not contain, depict, or materially incorporate any of the following unless ArtUp expressly accepts the image after review:
- third-party copyrighted artwork, photographs, illustrations, graphics, music-related imagery, protected logos, trademarks, brand identifiers, or other third-party intellectual property;
- Queen's University logos, crests, trademarks, branded signs, or other protected institutional material (incidental appearances may be accepted or rejected by ArtUp in its discretion);
- nudity, sexually explicit content, illegal activity, hate symbols, discriminatory content, harassment, threats, dangerous conduct, or content that ArtUp considers offensive, unlawful, unsafe, misleading, or unsuitable;
- material that violates privacy, publicity, confidentiality, contractual, intellectual-property, or other rights; or
- malicious code, corrupted files, non-image content, or material intended to interfere with Campus Canvas.
ArtUp has final review authority over whether an image is accepted, displayed, removed, or disqualified, subject to applicable law. An image may be removed even after voting has begun, and votes associated with an ineligible or removed image may be disregarded.
7Entrant Representations and Warranties
By submitting an image, the entrant represents and warrants that:
- the entrant personally created and owns the copyright in the image and has full authority to grant the rights in these Terms;
- the image is not subject to an inconsistent exclusive licence, assignment, security interest, restriction, or third-party claim;
- the image and its submission do not violate any law, agreement, privacy right, publicity right, copyright, trademark, moral right, or other right of any person or organization;
- the image complies with the content standards above; and
- all account and eligibility information supplied to ArtUp is accurate and complete.
8Copyright Ownership; Exclusive Commercial Licence to ArtUp
The entrant retains legal ownership of copyright in each submitted image, subject to the exclusive commercial licence granted in this section.
For every image submitted, the entrant irrevocably grants ArtUp a perpetual, worldwide, royalty-free, transferable and sublicensable exclusive licence, for the full duration of copyright and any renewals or extensions, to exercise all commercially exploitable rights in the image to the exclusion of all others, including the entrant, except for the expressly permitted non-commercial uses below. This licence includes the right to reproduce, publish, communicate, display, distribute, transmit, crop, edit, retouch, resize, colour-adjust, combine, adapt, translate, modify, archive, advertise, promote, sell, license, sublicense, manufacture from, merchandise, and otherwise commercially exploit the image in any media or format now known or later developed.
Without limiting the foregoing, ArtUp may provide submitted images to artists, designers, printers, manufacturers, technology providers, licensees, distributors and other collaborators as source or reference material; commission or create paintings, illustrations, designs or other derivative works based on them; reproduce them as posters, postcards, prints, merchandise or other products; and commercially exploit those products and derivative works without further approval from or compensation to the entrant.
The entrant will not sell, commercially license, commercially merchandise, assign commercial exploitation rights in, or authorize another person or business to commercially exploit a submitted image in a manner inconsistent with ArtUp's exclusive licence.
The entrant may continue to use a submitted image for personal, educational, portfolio and other non-commercial purposes, including personal social media and academic or employment portfolios, provided the entrant does not sell, commercially license, merchandise, or authorize commercial exploitation of the image.
No additional payment, royalty, residual, approval right, accounting, or other compensation is owed to the entrant for ArtUp's use of a submitted image or any derivative work. A prize, if won, is separate from and is not a royalty or purchase price for the licence.
The licence survives rejection, removal, disqualification, non-selection, cancellation of an individual submission, account closure, or completion or cancellation of the contest, except to the extent applicable law requires otherwise.
The entrant waives, to the fullest extent permitted by Canadian law, all moral rights in each submitted image in favour of ArtUp and all persons authorized by ArtUp, including rights of attribution, anonymity and integrity. ArtUp may use an image with or without credit or attribution.
By clicking “I Agree” while authenticated to a Campus Canvas account containing the user's first name, last name and email address, the user adopts the electronic record as the user's signature and intends that act to constitute written acceptance of these Terms. Each later image upload and submission reaffirms that electronic signature and written grant as to the submitted images. ArtUp may retain electronic records of the accepted Terms version, timestamps, account identifier, submission identifiers and related transaction records.
9Voting Rules
Voting is available only to eligible Campus Canvas users who meet the age, enrollment and @queensu.ca requirements in these Terms. Voting may begin when the contest opens. Approved images may be made available for voting on a rolling basis after ArtUp review.
Each user may cast only one recorded vote on each image. The vote may be positive or negative. Once a vote is recorded, the user may not cast another vote on that same image. Participants may vote on their own submitted images. Self-voting, by itself, is not prohibited.
Winners are ranked by total positive votes. Negative votes do not subtract from an image's positive-vote total and do not otherwise reduce its ranking score.
Users may not use bots, scripts, automation, multiple accounts, false identities, coordinated manipulation, vote trading, paid voting, unauthorized access, technical circumvention, or any other method intended to distort voting. ArtUp may invalidate suspicious or improper votes, suspend accounts, and disqualify images or users where it reasonably believes the integrity of voting has been compromised.
10Material Factors Affecting Chances of Winning
The following factors may materially affect an entrant's chances of winning and are expressly disclosed:
- the number of valid images submitted and approved;
- the number of positive votes each eligible image receives;
- entrants may submit an unlimited number of valid three-image submissions, which may give entrants with more accepted images more opportunities to place an image in the top five;
- images are reviewed and released for voting on a rolling basis, and approval times may vary; an image approved later may have less time to receive votes than an image approved earlier, and ArtUp does not guarantee equal display or voting time for every image;
- an image may be rejected or removed before or after voting begins, and associated votes may be disregarded;
- ArtUp may invalidate improper votes, resolve ties, verify eligibility, and apply these Terms before finalizing rankings;
- ArtUp may elect to limit an entrant to one prize, as described below, which can cause a lower-ranked image from another entrant to move into a prize position; and
- technical conditions, outages, connectivity, device issues, or other operational events may affect whether a submission or vote is successfully received, subject to the protections and remedies required by applicable law.
11Winner Selection and Tie-Breaking
After voting closes, ArtUp will review the results and determine the five eligible images with the highest total positive-vote counts, after removing ineligible images, invalidating improper votes, applying eligibility requirements, and resolving ties.
If two or more eligible images have the same positive-vote total for a prize position, ArtUp staff will break the tie using criteria such as relevance to the Queen's University experience, originality, visual quality, suitability for artistic reinterpretation, and commercial usability. ArtUp's tie-breaking determination is final and binding, subject to applicable law.
If more than one image from the same entrant would otherwise receive a prize, ArtUp may, in its discretion, limit that entrant to one prize. If ArtUp elects to apply a one-prize-per-entrant limit, it will apply that approach consistently when finalizing winners, and the next-highest-ranked eligible image(s) will move into the available prize position(s).
ArtUp expects to complete result review and send potential-winner notices within 10 business days after the voting deadline, subject to any lawful extension, investigation, verification, or administrative delay reasonably required to protect contest integrity.

ArtUp may use an electronic or physical payment method of its choice and may substitute an equivalent payment method where reasonably necessary, provided the stated prize value is not reduced. Any substituted payment method will remain subject to these Terms.
Prize payment will be made electronically where reasonably available. If physical delivery is required, the winner must voluntarily provide a valid mailing address for that limited purpose. Failure to provide information reasonably required to deliver a prize within the claim process may result in forfeiture and selection of the next eligible ranked image.
All taxes, reporting obligations, fees or other consequences associated with receiving or using a prize are the winner's responsibility. ArtUp does not provide tax advice or make representations regarding the tax treatment of any prize.
13Potential Winner Notice, Skill-Testing Question and Claim Process
A person identified as a potential winner is not a confirmed winner until all requirements in these Terms are satisfied. ArtUp will send a potential-winner notice to the email address associated with the relevant Campus Canvas account.
The potential winner will have 21 calendar days from the date ArtUp sends the notice to respond, correctly answer a mathematical skill-testing question sent by email, confirm eligibility and compliance with these Terms, and provide any other information reasonably required to verify eligibility or deliver the prize. The skill-testing question may be answered by email.
If a potential winner does not respond within 21 calendar days, answers the skill-testing question incorrectly, cannot be verified, refuses the required confirmation/release, or is otherwise ineligible, ArtUp may disqualify that person and move to the next-highest-ranked eligible image.
ArtUp will not publicly announce winners' full names. ArtUp may display winning images with the winner's initials and may otherwise use submitted images with or without attribution under the licence in these Terms.
14Campus Canvas App / Service Terms of Use
Campus Canvas may be offered as a web application, mobile application, or related digital service. ArtUp grants each eligible user a limited, personal, revocable, non-exclusive, non-transferable right to access and use Campus Canvas solely for its intended functions and in accordance with these Terms.
Users must not:
- interfere with, probe, scan, overload, disrupt, damage, or attempt unauthorized access to Campus Canvas, its servers, databases or security controls;
- reverse engineer, scrape, crawl, copy, reproduce, modify, distribute or exploit Campus Canvas or its software except as permitted by law;
- upload malicious code or content intended to damage, disable, collect data from, or gain unauthorized access to a device or system;
- use Campus Canvas to harass others, violate law, infringe rights, misrepresent identity or eligibility, or manipulate contest voting; or
- use another person's account or permit another person to use an account in a manner that defeats eligibility or voting controls.
ArtUp may suspend or terminate access to Campus Canvas, remove content, change functionality, perform maintenance, or discontinue all or part of the service where reasonably necessary. ArtUp does not guarantee that Campus Canvas will be available at all times or on every device, browser, operating system, network or configuration.
Users are responsible for maintaining reasonable backups, device security, software updates, connectivity and sufficient storage. Use of Campus Canvas may consume data, battery, storage or other device resources, and users are responsible for carrier, network or device charges.
15App Risk, Warranty Disclaimer and Device/Data Liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, CAMPUS CANVAS AND THE CONTEST ARE PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE,” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OR CONDITIONS OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS, IMPLIED OR STATUTORY, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, AVAILABILITY, SECURITY, ACCURACY OR ERROR-FREE OPERATION.
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, ARTUP AND ITS DIRECTORS, OFFICERS, EMPLOYEES, CONTRACTORS, AGENTS, REVIEWERS, SERVICE PROVIDERS, SUCCESSORS AND ASSIGNS (THE “ARTUP PARTIES”) ARE NOT LIABLE FOR DAMAGE TO OR MALFUNCTION OF A PHONE, TABLET, COMPUTER OR OTHER DEVICE; LOSS, CORRUPTION OR UNAUTHORIZED ACCESS TO DATA; LOST OR FAILED UPLOADS; LOST OR MISRECORDED VOTES; APP CRASHES; SOFTWARE CONFLICTS; BATTERY OR STORAGE IMPACT; NETWORK OR CONNECTIVITY FAILURES; MALWARE OR SECURITY INCIDENTS NOT CAUSED BY LIABILITY THAT CANNOT LAWFULLY BE EXCLUDED; OR OTHER TECHNICAL PROBLEMS ARISING FROM OR RELATING TO USE OF CAMPUS CANVAS.
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits a right, remedy, warranty, condition or liability that applicable law prohibits the parties from excluding or limiting.
16Privacy and Personal Information
Campus Canvas registration requires only a first name, last name and email address, subject to additional information being requested from a potential winner where reasonably necessary for eligibility verification or prize delivery.
ArtUp may collect, use and retain personal information for account creation and authentication; eligibility and enrollment verification; contest administration; voting integrity and security; winner contact and prize delivery; operation, improvement and protection of Campus Canvas; recordkeeping relating to acceptance of these Terms and submitted content; and administration of future ArtUp-related Campus Canvas initiatives and opportunities, in each case subject to applicable privacy and electronic-messaging laws.
ArtUp will not sell users' personal information or distribute it to unrelated third parties. ArtUp may disclose or provide access to information to service providers that need it to operate Campus Canvas or administer the contest, to professional advisers, in connection with a corporate transaction or succession, or where disclosure is required or permitted by law. ArtUp will use reasonable safeguards and retain personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for identified purposes or as required or permitted by law.
Acceptance of these Terms does not override any legal requirement for separate consent to receive commercial electronic messages. ArtUp may contact users for account, security, contest and service-administration purposes and may contact users about future ArtUp initiatives only where permitted by applicable law. Where an unsubscribe or withdrawal right applies, ArtUp will honour it as required by law.
17Release and Indemnity
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, each user and entrant releases the ArtUp Parties from claims, demands, losses, liabilities, damages and causes of action arising from or relating to participation in the contest, voting, use of Campus Canvas, technical failures, acceptance or use of a prize, or ArtUp's authorized use of submitted images, except to the extent the claim arises from liability that cannot lawfully be released or excluded.
Each user and entrant agrees to defend, indemnify and hold harmless the ArtUp Parties from third-party claims, proceedings, losses, damages, liabilities, judgments, settlements and reasonable legal costs arising from or relating to: (a) the user's submitted content; (b) breach of these Terms or any representation or warranty; (c) infringement or alleged infringement of copyright, trademark, privacy, publicity, confidentiality or other third-party rights; (d) unlawful, fraudulent, abusive or manipulative conduct; or (e) misuse of Campus Canvas.
18Limitation of Liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, THE ARTUP PARTIES WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, EXEMPLARY, PUNITIVE OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES; LOSS OF DATA, PROFITS, REVENUE, BUSINESS, OPPORTUNITY, REPUTATION OR EXPECTED BENEFIT; OR DAMAGES ARISING FROM INTERRUPTION, TECHNICAL FAILURE, LOSS OF A SUBMISSION OR VOTE, DISQUALIFICATION, OR INABILITY TO ACCESS CAMPUS CANVAS, WHETHER THE CLAIM IS BASED IN CONTRACT, TORT (INCLUDING NEGLIGENCE), STATUTE OR OTHERWISE.
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, THE ARTUP PARTIES' TOTAL AGGREGATE LIABILITY TO A USER OR ENTRANT ARISING FROM OR RELATING TO THE CONTEST, CAMPUS CANVAS, A SUBMISSION, VOTING OR A PRIZE WILL NOT EXCEED THE VALUE OF THE PRIZE TO WHICH THE CLAIM RELATES, IF ANY. WHERE NO PRIZE IS IMPLICATED, TOTAL AGGREGATE LIABILITY WILL NOT EXCEED CAD $50. THESE LIMITS DO NOT APPLY TO LIABILITY THAT CANNOT LAWFULLY BE LIMITED OR EXCLUDED.
19Contest Integrity; ArtUp Decisions
ArtUp may investigate suspected fraud, manipulation, ineligibility, technical abuse, duplicate content, infringement, misconduct, or other rule violations. ArtUp may require information reasonably necessary for an investigation and may suspend an account, invalidate votes, reject or remove an image, disqualify a user, or withhold a prize where ArtUp reasonably concludes these Terms have been violated or contest integrity has been compromised.
All decisions of ArtUp concerning eligibility, image approval or rejection, vote validity, tie-breaking, disqualification, interpretation of these Terms, contest administration, prize administration and related matters are final and binding, subject to applicable law.
20General Legal Terms
Governing Law and Jurisdiction. These Terms and the contest are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada applicable in Ontario, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Subject to any mandatory law to the contrary, the courts of Ontario have exclusive jurisdiction over disputes arising from or relating to these Terms, Campus Canvas or the contest.
Severability. If any provision of these Terms is held invalid, illegal or unenforceable, that provision will be enforced to the maximum extent permitted and the remaining provisions will continue in effect.
No Waiver. A failure or delay by ArtUp to enforce a provision is not a waiver of that provision or any other right.
Assignment. A user may not assign or transfer rights or obligations under these Terms without ArtUp's written consent. ArtUp may assign or transfer these Terms, the contest, Campus Canvas, the licences granted under these Terms, and related rights or obligations to an affiliate, successor, purchaser, licensee or other permitted transferee, subject to applicable law.
Entire Agreement. These Terms, together with any clearly incorporated contest notices or posted deadline extensions, constitute the agreement governing Campus Canvas use and this contest. If ArtUp makes a material change that applicable law requires to be re-accepted, ArtUp may require users to accept the updated terms before further use.
Headings. Headings are for convenience only and do not limit the meaning of these Terms.
